Chaperoning stem cells: a role for heat shock proteins in the modulation of stem cell self‐renewal and differentiation?Earl Prinsloo, Mokgadi M. Setati, Victoria M. Longshaw & Gregory L. Blatch - 2009 - Bioessays 31 (4):370-377.
Self‐renewal and differentiation of stem cells are tightly regulated processes subject to intrinsic and extrinsic signals. Molecular chaperones and co‐chaperones, especially heat shock proteins (Hsp), are ubiquitous molecules involved in the modulation of protein conformational and complexation states. The function of Hsp, which are typically associated with stress response and tolerance, is well characterized in differentiated cells, while their role in stem cells remains unclear. It appears that embryonic stem cells exhibit increased stress tolerance and concomitant high levels of chaperone (...)

Christianity and existentialism.William A. Earle, James M. Edie & John Wild (eds.) - 1963 - [Evanston, Ill.]: Northwestern University Press.
Heidegger, Sartre and the later existentialist philosophers inherited a world, it has been said, from which "God is absent". Contemporary philosophy begins in the momentous questioning of the Christian experience by such nineteenth-century figures as Nietzsche and Dosteyevsky. But if existentialism is in some respects a beginning-again, it is in other respects linked to the classical world out of which Christianity arose and to certain themes in the writings of ancient and medieval Christians. Renewal and innovation converge. Addressing themselves to (...)

    Modernism in Science and Philosophy.Wilbur M. Urban - 1930 - Philosophy 5 (18):230-.
There can be little doubt, I think, that the quality and texture of recent scientific and philosophical thought mark a greater break with the past than any innovations such as were introduced by a Gallileo or a Newton, a Descartes or a Kant. The switch over from the logicality and essential rationality of these men to the irrationalisms, the anti-intellectualisms, and the new logics of the moderns, is not at all on the same footing as that deepening of our concepts (...)
